Virginia Tech successfully achieved reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and School- Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in December 2010. This acknowledgement reflects Virginia Tech's ongoing commitment to excellence in all aspects of its operations - academic as well as administrative - and our dedication to continuous improvement in meeting our institutional mission and strategic initiatives.
The oversight of Virginia Tech's ongoing activities related to accreditation is spread across all aspects of campus, including ongoing academic review of programs (Assessment In Action), and administrative quality and improvement (AdQI), both of which permeate the entire campus community and are managed by the Office of Assessment and Evaluation. Our quality enhancement plan promoting first year experiences for our freshman and transfer students, Pathways to Success is managed through the Office of First year Experiences. Several offices on campus work cooperatively to ensure that official review and internal governance standards are achieved in ways that minimize wasted effort and maximize productivity for our academic and administrative units. General coordination of SACS communications and various initiatives is provided by the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness.

Spotlight on Substantive Change
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accredits an entire institution and its programs and services, wherever they are located or however they are delivered. It is the responsibility of an institution to follow SACSCOC substantive change procedures and inform SACSCOC of substantive changes as specified in those procedures.
So what is substantive change?
